As a geek I usually have a couple side programming projects that I’m working on in my free time. The last couple months I really haven’t had one and I need to come up with something soon or a rip in the space time continuum will open. I have been thinking about this the last couple weeks and I’m struggling to decide between the two projects that I want to work on and IF I should make them available to other people. I’m very interested in starting an open source project or a public website because I have always wanted to have people other than me use a program that I conceived of. One of my ideas will work as both a web app and a desktop app but the other will only work as a desktop app.
The thing I keep getting back to is if I do make a website what are the legal ramifications. Do I have to worry about the privacy of the user’s data? Of course I do but where do I get a EULA that will handle this for free? Do I need to worry about overages for my hosting? Yes. I guess I need to look for a book on starting an online business.
I guess I will just brood over it for the next couple days and this weekend I will make a decision.
