One of the things I have been looking for recently are new programming podcasts. Given the fact that 99% of programmers are using their computer 105% of the day, those of us who several computers at a time mess up that number, I would assume that there would be a plethora of programming podcasts. But I was wrong.
Most of the podcasts that I have found have been interview shows about a specific technology or Microsoft product (I’m looking at you .NET Rocks guys) but very few about how to do anything interesting. Things like how to set up a unit test, different vocabulary words, or how to effectively manage branches.
I wonder if podcasts just aren’t the best way to convey programming related information. The majority of topics in computer science really need some kind of graph or Venn diagram. Video would be a good way to go but it’s hard to watch video and work at the same time (I’ve heard :-)).
Can anyone recommend something? I have found:
.NET rocks
Handselminutes
Software Engineering Radio
and the IT Conversations Programming Feed
Another question is: Would people be interested in a quick (5 minutes) podcast every day about a short topic in computer science? It could just be a quick question/tip like the quickanddirtytips.com podcasts or a quick data structures or class related question. There could also be a longer in depth episode once a week when needed.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackDude, RailsCasts.com is the best programming podcast I’ve ever subscribed to. It used to focus on quick little tips (3 times a week), but lately Ryan has focused on longer (once a week) topics. He’s debating going back to the shorter format.
I know there’s a more general Ruby podcast somewhere, but I’ve never listened to it.
